Black Hawk Lake is a favorite destination for area anglers. Channel catfish, walleye, and bass are abundant in many areas of the lake. Watch for the crowd fishing off the West Stone Pier – that means the perch and blue gills are biting! In addition to the Stone Piers, other popular fishing locations include Ice House Point and the handicap-accessible dock in Town Bay. We also have a new handicapped-accessible fishing pier with a shelter. Located in Town Bay on the west end of the lake, the new shelter offers fishermen an opportunity to fish inside during inclement weather. Built over a fish habitat with aerators running during the winter, the shelter is lit during evening hours. The new pier is accessible via the hard-surface trail at Ice House Point.
Another local fishing spot is Lake Arrowhead with public access entrances just south of Lake View. Offering excellent fishing, only boats with electric trolling motors are allowed on this small lake. Both Lake Arrowhead and Black Hawk Lake are popular ice fishing spots during the winter months.
Avid outdoorsmen also enjoy hunting in the Lake View and Black Hawk Lake area in the fall and winter months for waterfowl, deer, cottontail rabbits and pheasants. More information on the hunting seasons, regulations and licensing can be found on the Iowa DNR website.
