Stone Pier Summer Concert Series Announces Performers for 2017 Season

Ten Acts and Five Shows Come Together to Form One Truly Talented Lineup

LAKE VIEW, IOWA – Expect an abundance of live music on Black Hawk Lake this summer, as the Stone Pier Summer Concert Series has announced the schedule for five free outdoor shows. Since its inception in 2011, the Series has presented respected acts from around the country representing a range of musical genres and this summer will be no exception. The historic Stone Pier stage, with its intimate scale and lakeside location, will also continue to provide a storied setting enjoyed by spectators attending by boat and on shore.

The Series will start on Saturday, June 3, with Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. This four-piece band will take listeners on a nostalgic trip back to the start of rock and roll as they play music with a strict adherence to the 1950-1969 timeframe. Their sound keeps audiences on their feet wishing the night would never end with a modern twist on what are still some of the best tunes in the world today. Singer-songwriter Chad Elliott will kick things off at 6pm with his laid-back storytelling and skillful fingerpicking.

The Independence Day weekend show will feature a must-see band, the Brazilian 2wins. Growing up in the violet slums of Brazil, twin brothers Walter and Wagner found solace in classical music on violins their father handmade. Their love of music and desire to make a positive impact led them on a wild ride to the United States, in pursuit of the biggest stages in the world. They have since been exciting audiences around the globe with a signature sound that draws influence from a plethora of genres. Together with their band, they are able to create a truly unforgettable, explosive live show that redefines live music.

Island Time Band will open the July 1 concert, with a special start time of 5pm. This steel drum duo, made up of Dave Herzog and Chuck Fox, comes from Key West, Fla., where they perform their show seven months of the year. Herzog has performed live on nationally televised programs including “The Today Show” and “Good Morning America,” while Fox has vast national touring experience with a variety of well-known recording stars. Together, they entertain crowds with a vast repertoire of favorites that are sure to have the crowd singing along.

The Black Lillies from Knoxville, Tenn., will bring their internationally-renowned talents to the Stone Pier stage on July 29. Their rich, rootsy tunes that cross generations and musical genres are performed with as much heart as technical virtuosity. If you ask them, they’ll tell you they play “Tennessee music,” while Rolling Stone Magazine described it as “country music with a soul-rock infusion” when it named them one of their “Top Ten Artists You Need to Know.” Either way, it is music that stirs your soul, touches your heart and makes you want to dance.

Their spirited live show has earned them festival slots and enthralled audiences at venues ranging from Bonnaroo to the New Orleans Jazz fest. They were also one of the first independent bands to play the Grand Ole Opry and have since returned dozens of times – sharing that stage with big-budget bands and major-label mainstreamers. Matt Woods, a native of Iowa and longstanding purveyor of its diverse blues scene, will share the Stone Pier stage with The Black Lillies, serving as the opening act beginning at 6pm.

King Of The Tramps is making a highly-anticipated return to the Series on August 12. Based in nearby Auburn, Iowa, their signature “Whiskey Gospel” sound is beloved by fans from near and far. After a busy 2016 that included an extensive touring schedule and the release of their latest album “Cumplir con el Diablo,” the band is sure to put on yet another show full of foot stompin’ and hand clappin’ when they are back in their backyard.

Americana Rock band, Cordovas, will open the August 12 show at 6pm. Based in Nashville, Tenn., Cordovas’ sound is rooted in harmony, songwriting and musicianship. They plan to release a new full-length album this year featuring several compositions from the group’s lead guitarist, Lucca Soria, a native of Minburn, Iowa.

The final show of the season will feature Salty View’s Acoustic Review and special guest Maddie Poppe, beginning at 5pm. A four-piece band based in Fort Dodge, Iowa, Salty View’s Acoustic Review is set to bring their lively blend of country and classic rock to the Stone Pier stage. Recently joined by former Jay Clyde Band lead singer and guitarist Cory Waller, of Carroll, IA, their harmonies, killer fiddle and guitar instrumental work will delight fans of all ages.

Maddie Poppe, a nineteen-year-old Indie/Pop/Folk singer-songwriter from Clarksville, Iowa, accompanies herself on guitar, ukulele and keyboard. She was selected to audition on NBC’s “The Voice,” which aired in February 2016 to 13.4 million viewers, and recently released her first album “Songs From The Basement” which she wrote, recorded and produced.

There is no admission charge or ticket required to attend the concerts, thanks to the support of many generous sponsors including Boulders Inn & Suites, Iowa State Bank andMoveIt.com. While concertgoers are allowed to bring food and beverages to the picnic-style performances, food is for sale at each show with all proceeds going back into the annual event. The popular “Burger Boat” will continue being operated by the Lake View Fire Department to deliver food to fans watching from Black Hawk Lake.

"We're excited about returning to a five show schedule this summer and about presenting our most diverse lineup of music to date," says Tom Bolan, who Co-Chairs the Concert Series along with Emily & Mike Busch. "We truly have something for everyone this season and can’t wait to welcome a lot of stellar talent to our one-of-a-kind Stone Pier stage.”
